ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – South Carolina finished 12th at the 2024 SEC Men’s Golf Championship on Friday at Sea Island Golf Club’s Seaside Course. The Gamecocks shot 296 (+16) in the final round for a final 54-hole tally of 861 (+21).
Redshirt sophomore Frankie Harris shot 73 (+3) as he paced the team with a T-17th finish at 1-under for the tournament in his SEC Championship debut. The Boca Raton, Fla., native made nine birdies over 54 holes, tying sophomore Zach Adams for the team lead this week at Sea Island.
Harris now has a team-leading six top-20 finishes in 10 stroke play starts in his first season in Garnet and Black. His scoring average of 70.55 leads the team.
Adams paced Carolina in the final round with a 1-over 71. He made a trio of birdies in round three. The Charleston, S.C., native was bogey free thru eight holes today with a pair of red numbers on his scorecard. His 26-hole, bogey free stretch came to a halt at the par-4 18th hole today.
The Gamecocks started on the back nine again in round three this morning. Adams finished just outside the top-20, T-23rd at even par for the week.
Senior Rafe Reynolds shot 75 (+5) and freshman Bo Carpenter shot 77 (+7) to round out the counting scores for Carolina today. Sixth-year Lansdon Robbins shot 84 (+14).
The Gamecocks win-loss record this season now sits at 70-67, just over the .500 mark required to be eligible for an at-large selection to the 2024 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship. The selection show will air live next Wednesday at 2 p.m. (ET) on the Golf Channel.
Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 13-15 to determine the 30 qualifying teams and six individuals (not on those qualifying teams) who will compete at the NCAA Championship at Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, Calif. May 24-29. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals (not on those teams) will compete at three regional sites while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals (not on those teams). The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams will advance to NCAA finals in California.
