SAN FRANCISCO – For the third time in his career, Javier Barcos was recognized when the conference released its yearly awards, earning All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention status on Thursday.
Barcos, who was an all-freshman team selection in 2021 and an All-Pac-12 Second-Team pick in 2023, is now the first Ute in program history to ever be honored three times. Garrett Clegg, Dustin Pimm and Blake Tomlinson were all recognized as all-conference twice during their careers.
The list of accomplishments for Barcos during the 2023-24 season include nine top 20 finishes, five top 10 spots and four tournaments in which he placed in the five. Those five top 10 appearances put him just one short of tying the program record and his current stroke average of 71.2 would also match the best for a single season in Utah history.
Barcos’ first top five performance of the season came in October at the Fighting Irish Classic, but his best golf so far in 2023-24 was a stretch in the spring that saw him place in the top three in three different tournaments, starting with The Invitational at the Ford, where he shot 7-under to take third. For that showing, he was chosen as the program’s first-ever Pac-12 Male Golfer of the Week.
Soon after, he shot 3-under at The Duck Invite to take home second, followed by a score of 10-under at the Gaucho Invitational for another runner-up finish. At the Pac-12 Championships, he landed in 11th, becoming the first Ute to place in the top 15 twice since Utah joined the conference. Barcos posted the fourth-best score at the 2023 Pac-12 Tournament.
The next stop for Javier and his teammates is the NCAA Austin Regional, which will begin on May 13. The Utes earned the No. 9 seed in the regional tournament and it’s the third time in the last four seasons Barcos has helped his squad reach that stage.
