No. 2 Gamecocks Headed Back to Another NCAA Championship – University of South Carolina Athletics

AUBURN, Ala. – No. 2 South Carolina is headed back to the NCAA Championship for the fourth consecutive season after finishing T-4th at the NCAA Auburn Regional on Wednesday. Junior All-American Louise Rydqvist made the clinching par putt on hole 18 to send the Gamecocks to NCAA finals for the 21st time in program history.

The 2024 First Team All-SEC selection paced Carolina in the final round with a 1-under 71 as she finished T-2nd, her third straight top-10 in an NCAA Regional and her team-leading fifth top-five finish of the season. Rydqvist had clutch birdies down the stretch at holes 14 and 15 today.

The Gamecocks T-4th with Tulsa at 891 (+27). No. 23 Georgia and Houston finished T-6th at 28-over as things came down to the wire on Wednesday at the Auburn University Club. The host No. 7 Tigers won at 10-over par as a team. No. 14 Oregon was the only team to break par in the third round with a team score of 5-under.

Senior Sophia Burnett, who was subbed in yesterday, put together another great performance for Carolina with a 2-over 74. She made a short putt for birdie at hole 16 today after nearly sinking her eagle putt.

Freshman Maylis Lamoure was reinserted into the lineup today for All-SEC sophomore Mia Sandtorv Lussand and she delivered as well with an even par 72. The talented first-year player from France made three birdies with a clutch circle at the par-5 16th hole. Fellow French freshman Vairana Heck shot 76 (+4) and was the final counting score. Junior All-American Hannah Darling shot 77 (+5) in the final round as she finished just inside the top-30.

The Gamecocks will head to Carlsbad, Calif. next week as one of 30 teams competing in the 2024 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship. Teams will play 72 holes with a cut to the top-15 after 54-holes. Opening round action gets underway next Friday at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa, the NCAA Championship host for the next three years. There will be a cut to the top-eight for match play on Monday, May 13 with the quarterfinals and semifinals taking place Tuesday and the National Championship match taking place on Wednesday, May 22.
