BATON ROUGE, La. – The Duke men’s golf team completed its practice round on Sunday afternoon ahead of the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional, which begins on Monday morning at the University Club in Baton Rouge, La. The Blue Devils are familiar with the University Club, having advanced from regional play in Baton Rouge in 2017 with a second-place finish at 10-over, 874.
Duke is seeking back-to-back NCAA Championship appearances after doing so last season with a fifth-place finish at the 2023 Norman Regional and is making its 32nd, and ninth straight, regional appearance in program history. Seeded fifth, the Blue Devils are looking to reach their ninth NCAA Championship under the leadership of head coach Jamie Green.
Duke starts a lineup of Luke Sample, Ethan Evans, William Love, Bryan Kim and Daniel Choi. Ian Siebers is also available to enter the lineup, serving as the alternate. Sample currently leads the Blue Devils in stroke average, at 71.70, which is tied for the 12th-best single-season stroke average in program history. The New York, N.Y., native has also tallied a team-high 13 under-par rounds so far this season and is joined with double-digit under-par rounds by Kim, a freshman, and Evans, a sophomore, who have 11 and 10, respectively. Love has returned from injury and played in all six spring events this season, logging a 71.89 stroke average in the spring and finishing inside the top-12 four times. Choi, making his first career start in the NCAA Tournament, snagged a top-10 finish in Duke’s final regular season event and made his first postseason start at the ACC Championship in late April.
Hosted by seventh-seeded LSU, the regional field also consists of overall No. 1-seed Auburn along with Virginia, Texas Tech, Oregon, Ohio State, Louisville, Houston, South Carolina, Lipscomb, Yale, Loyola Maryland and Arkansas at Pine Bluff. University Club, set up to play to a par of 72 and a distance of 7,401 yards, is the home course of LSU and is one of six 54-hole regional tournaments held across the country on May 13-15.
The Blue Devils, paired with Oregon and Ohio State, begin play off the 10th tee. Weather permitting, Duke’s first round will begin at 8:30 CT. Live scoring for the event is available on Golfstat.
