#5 Vols in Second Ahead of Final Round at NCAA Austin Regional

AUSTIN, Texas – The fifth-ranked Tennessee men’s golf team is in second place following two rounds at the NCAA Austin Regional.
After two more rounds of stroke play—set to be contested on Tuesday and Wednesday—the top five teams from the Austin Regional will advance to the NCAA Championships, which are scheduled to take place from May 24-39 at Omni La
Costa’s Champions Course in Carlsbad, California.

The Vols shot 4-under during Tuesday’s round and enter the final round 12-under overall.


Bruce Murphy gave UT its best second-round score after firing a 3-under 68. The Atlanta, Georgia, native’s round was highlighted by an eagle on hole 12 that got him to 1-under overall.


Murphy’s moving day performance ascended him 26 spots up the leaderboard and he enters round three tied for 17th.


Lance Simpson provided the Big Orange with their second-best round of the day after logging a 1-under 70.  


Simpson currently sits 3-under overall and is tied for 10th ahead of round three.


The redshirt senior duo of Bryce Lewis and Jake Hall gave UT even-par 70s on moving day.


Lewis, Tennessee all-time career leader in rounds of par or better with 89, fired an even-par 71 on moving day to remain at 4-under overall. Lewis sits tied for sixth and three shots back of the individual lead ahead of the final round.


Hall sits 2-under overall and enters the final round tied for 17th.


Additionally, Hall now has 23 rounds of par or better on the season, which marks the third-most in program history in a single season.


Evan Woosley-Reed shot a 2-over 73 in round two and sits tied for 25th at 1-over heading into the final round.
