CARLSBAD, Calif. – No. 7 USC women’s golf finishes out the first day at the NCAA Championships in a tie for 21st as it sits 11-over (299) after the round on Friday, May 17 on the La Costa Champions Course at the La Costa Resort & Spa.
The Trojans currently sit in a tie for 21st with Oregon State and trail the 15th spot by eight strokes. Clemson leads the tournament at eight-under par.
Leading the charge for USC was junior Amari Avery and sophomore Catherine Park. Both players carded 71’s (+1) in the first round and are tied for 58th in the field. Avery started off the afternoon hot, by birding her first three holes, however, the junior would only birdie one more and would be one-under heading into the final hole, before she left the course with a double bogey. Park would have one more bogey than birdie, as she bogeyed hole No. 7 (started on hole No. 10) to put her above par for the afternoon.
Following them would be senior Brianna Navarrosa as she was three-over and ended tied for 87th. The senior posted three birdies to six bogeys on the afternoon.
The final two scorers were even with each other at six-over (78) as freshman Bailey Shoemaker and junior Xin (Cindy) Kou both finished tied for 132nd in the field.
The Trojans round score of 299, was their highest of the season.
USC will have an early tee time tomorrow, as it is set to tee off starting at 7:45 a.m. on the Champions Course at the La Costa Resort & Spa.
