CARLSBAD, Calif. – No.3 South Carolina remains 20th at the NCAA Championship at 17-over thru 36 holes. The Gamecocks shot 297 (+9) in round two and sit six shots back of the top-15 cutline for the conclusion of tomorrow’s third round.
Junior All-American Louise Rydqvist, freshman Vairana Heck and freshman Maylis Lamoure all shot 73 (+1) to lead the team. Rydqvist was rock solid all day but just couldn’t get any birdie putts to fall until the par-5 18th hole. Heck made a pair of birdies and Lamoure had a pair of birdies down the stretch at holes 14 and 15.
Rydqvist is inside the top-20, six shots back of Adela Cernousek of Texas A&M with 36 holes to go in the tournament. Lamoure, who is making her NCAA Championship debut, has also played well and has a chance to crack the top-20 as she’s just three shots back.
Sophomore Mia Sandtorv Lussand was the final counting score today with a 78 (+6). Senior Sophia Burnett was subbed in for All-American Hannah Darling and shot 80 (+8) today.
Carolina will be paired with Michigan State and Oregon State tomorrow for the third round of stroke play. Live scoring will be available again via Golfstat. The Gamecocks’ first player will be off at 3:22 p.m. (ET) from hole ten.
The top-15 teams at the conclusion of tomorrow’s third round advance to medal round Monday. The top-three individuals on non-advancing teams will compete in the final round of stroke play on Monday as well.
