USC Women’s Golf Sets Date with Clemson in NCAA Match Play Quarterfinals

Women’s Golf | May 20, 2024

CARLSBAD, Calif. – No. 7 USC women’s golf advanced to match play, after posting the best score of the afternoon at one-under par. The Trojans clinched the No. 4 seed and will play Clemson tomorrow in the quarterfinal match at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa.

Two USC players put together under-par outings, as senior Brianna Navarrosa and freshman Bailey Shoemaker each carded at 71 (-1). Navarrosa closes out the stroke play version of the tournament as the top scorer for the Trojans as she wrapped up her final NCAA Championship in 15th place. The senior was finished out one-under par for the day after she bogeyed the last two holes before entering the clubhouse. Navarrosa put a cap on her final stroke play tournament with a one-over tournament score after four days.

Second on the team for the tournament was Shoemaker and junior Amari Avery. Both players ended the four days at four-over par and were tied for 19th. Shoemaker’s 71 (-1) was brought on by a back-to-back birdie stretch on hole No. 17 and 18, as she was two-under on the back nine.  Amari had a tougher day as she was three-over par for the afternoon pushing her to that four-over total.

Junior Xin (Cindy) Kou had a big afternoon after being subbed back in for the final round as she was an Even 72. Kou played a perfect round on the back nine, as she pared eight holes and birdied No. 12. Kou finished her three rounds nine-over par.

The last finisher of the squad was sophomore Catherine Park. Park came back from a tough round yesterday, as went one-over par today and finished tied for 34th at seven-over par.

USC will play Clemson at 7:40 a.m. tomorrow with the winner taking on the winner of No. 1 Stanford/No. 8 Auburn.
