CARLSBAD, Calif. – The Golf Coaches Association of America announced Friday that Vanderbilt men’s golf head coach Scott Limbaugh has been named a finalist for the 2024 NCAA Division I Dave Williams Award presented by Golf Pride Grips.
The Williams Award honors the national coach of the year at every level of collegiate golf. Limbaugh is one of five finalists for the NCAA Division I Coach of the Year honor, as he is joined by Jake Amos (East Tennessee State), Nick Clinard (Auburn), Sean Covich (West Virginia), and Andrew DiBitetto (North Carolina).
It is the third-straight season that Limbaugh has been named a finalist for the Williams Award. Overall, it is his seventh time being selected as a finalist. Limbaugh won the Williams Award in 2017 after Vanderbilt won stroke play at the NCAA Men’s Golf Championships and tied for third in match play.
Limbaugh once again has the Commodores in contention for the program’s first NCAA national championship as a team in 2023-24. Vanderbilt currently ranks second in the GCAA Coaches Poll and Scoreboard powered by Clippd National Rankings.
The Dores have collected seven team victories this season, tied for the second-most single-season wins in program history. Vandy goes into the 2024 NCAA Men’s Golf Championships having won its NCAA Regional for the third time in program history. The Commodores captured the 2024 West Lafayette Regional title after Vanderbilt carded 24-under 840. Limbaugh led Vanderbilt to the final match of stroke play at the SEC Championship for the fourth-consecutive season, while the Dores finished in the top four in all 11 tournaments in 2023-24.
Vanderbilt has had four individual medalists during this season. Senior Cole Sherwood won the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational and junior Jackson Van Paris captured the title at the St Andrews Links Collegiate in the fall. Junior Gordon Sargent became the second golfer ever to win back-to-back Mason Rudolph Championships to close April. Recently, graduate student William Moll became the first Commodore to win an NCAA Regional, finishing first at the 2024 NCAA West Lafayette Regional.
A total of four Commodores earned All-SEC honors under Limbaugh’s guidance this season. Vanderbilt had a league-best three selections on the All-SEC first team, as Sargent, Sherwood, and graduate student Matthew Riedel earned the distinction.
