FORT WORTH, Texas — For Pierceson Coody, this week at the Charles Schwab Challenge has been a special one, not only because it’s a home game but also because his grandfather, Charles, was instrumental in getting him the appearance.
“Without his kind of connections to TCU and Colonial I don’t know if I would be standing right here, because I got a sponsor invite this week. My status wasn’t good enough to get in on my number,” Coody said. “So, yeah, I owe a lot to the tournament and to just my granddad for kind of having the relationships that he does and allowing me to play and I’m just happy that I’m taking advantage of the opportunity.”
Pierceson Coody has made the most of the chance, maneuvering his way into a tie for second place at the tournament’s midpoint. But while the former University of Texas star has had things go his way this week, a number of big names were sent packing after two rounds.
Here’s a look at some of the notables who failed to get below the cutline, which fell at 2 under.
Hossler sealed his fate with three bogeys on his first nine during Friday’s round.
Talk about leaving town with a sour taste in your mouth. In his final half-dozen holes, English had two bogeys and a triple to fall two shots off the mark.
This marked just the second missed cut of the year for Moore, who posted five bogeys on the front nine during Friday’s action.
