Florida State Falls In Match Play Championship Final

CARLSBAD, Calif. (theACC.com) – Despite battling back after facing an early deficit, Florida State came up short and fell in the match play final of the 2024 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship to Auburn, 3-2, Wednesday evening at the Omni La Costa North Course in Carlsbad, California.

Never gaining a lead in the overall score, the Seminoles rallied when Cole Anderson fended off Auburn’s Carson Bacha with a 1UP victory and Tyler Weaver defeated Josiah Gilbert, 2&1. With Weaver’s win, the freshman was the only FSU player to finish a perfect 3-0 in match play this week.

With the Championship coming down to Florida State’s Luke Clanton and Auburn’s J.M. Butler, Butler never trailed in the match and eventually won, 2&1. It is the first men’s golf national title in Auburn’s history.

Defeating a pair of ACC opponents along the way, Florida State advanced to the national championship match for the first time in program history. It marks the second straight season an ACC team has advanced to the national title match.
