Liz Kilpatrick Named UT Athletics Assistant Director of Strategic Communications

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Liz Kilpatrick, who has served as a student assistant in the University of Tennessee Athletics strategics communications department for the last two-plus years, is joining the office full-time.

A graduate of Tennessee earlier this month, May 2024, with a degree in communication studies, Kilpatrick will be the assistant director of strategic communications. She will serve as the primary contact for her alma mater’s men’s golf, women’s golf and soccer programs.

“We are excited that Liz will be joining our office in a full-time capacity,” said Jason Baum, Executive Associate Athletics Director for Brand Advancement and Chief Communications Officer. “Our student assistant program has served as a starting point for many talented communications professionals in our industry, and we are fortunate to have one of our own starting her career with us here on Rocky Top.”

For the past 11 months, Kilpatrick has worked as the main contact for the Volunteers’ men’s golf program, currently ranked seventh nationally. Over that period, she has spearheaded a social media plan to increase the @vol_golf Instagram following by 106 percent.

A native of Burns, Tenn., Kilpatrick has executed all press releases, media availabilities and photo shoots during her time with the Tennessee men’s golf program, as well as handled all website-related content and assisted with recruiting needs. She also assisted in coordinating the inaugural “Visit Knoxville Collegiate” in September 2023.

“I am thrilled for this amazing opportunity to work at my alma mater in a full-time capacity. I want to thank Jason Baum and Bill Martin for their belief in me,” Kilpatrick said. “I also want to thank Brennan Webb for all he has done for me; I would not be in this position without him and I’m appreciative he trusts me to play a part in building the UT men’s golf brand. I would also like to express my gratitude to many others who supported me throughout my undergraduate career at Tennessee. I look forward to staying on Rocky Top and cannot wait to also work with the soccer and women’s golf programs.”

Along with her role leading the communications efforts for the men’s golf program, Kilpatrick has worked with Tennessee baseball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, football, soccer and softball in various capacities.
