Sabina is one of two women’s models that forms part of Duca del Cosma’s tour-level pro spike collection, which has been developed and tested in collaboration with tour pros including England’s Georgia Hall. So, would this shoe help me play like a pro and impress as one of the best women’s golf shoes?
While Duca del Cosma produces shoes that perform very well, women are more likely to be familiar with the Italian brand’s extensive range of fashion-led shoes in different designs and colors, like Alesi or Olivera. If it wasn’t for the trademark ‘C’ on the shoe’s kiltie, which incidentally is removable, you could be forgiven for not recognising this as a Duca del Cosma shoe.
There’s no metallic or shimmer in sight. Crafted in premium waterproof leather, it’s a fairly low-profile brogue-style shoe in plain white, but with immaculate stitching and added touches like the Italian flag at the top of the tongue, Sabina has the luxurious look that women have come to expect from this stylish brand.
As for comfort, once I’d pushed my foot into the shoe, it instantly hugged it for a compact fit, yet still with enough room for my toes to breathe, so definitely true to size. It’s a very sturdy looking shoe, so I was surprised how lightweight it felt and combined with the cushioned insole, this made for a pleasurable 18 hole-walk. I was slightly concerned beforehand, as the heel looked a little high, but straight out of the box I didn’t experience any rubbing.
I’m a fan of spikeless shoes because of their versatility, but spiked models like Sabina, FootJoy’s Pro/SLX and adidas’ Tour360 24 are designed especially to offer ultimate stability. Sabina has a standout, bright red Airplay 6 outsole and this features strategically positioned spikes and different shaped nubs.
Combined with the overall comfort of this shoe, it does offer substantial grip. I felt nicely grounded and balanced on all my shots, although when comparing with spikeless shoes, the difference was not as noticeable as I thought it would be. It’s worth mentioning, considering the color, it was easy to clean.
If you’re looking for a spiked, performance-led model to give you guaranteed stability, then Sabina is worth considering, especially because the color will match any outfit!
