Iron off the tee on his fourth hole, and another fairway. That’s a huge sign early that he has hit every fairway. That’s one of the keys to someone who is going to win this week. Let’s not get carried away on a Thursday, now, but that’s a key. He’ll have 141 yards to the pin for his second shot.
It’s the best iron shot of the day for Tiger, but it goes long instead of high and right. It’s not a huge miss, he’s in the short grass, though he’ll have to scramble for the second straight hole to make a par.
Tiger chooses putter from behind the green, and he adds a little but of juice to this one and it runs a few feet past. Perhaps he hit it a bit hard after watching Fitzpatrick and Zalatoris each leave putts short from off the green early on. Nevertheless, he has a U.S. Open par putt of 9 feet.
The flat stick is on FIRE. He pours in the par putt. He has some confidence with the putter right now.
