Virginia Athletics | Eleven Cavaliers Earn CSC At-Large Academic All-District Honors

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – A combined 11 Virginia men’s and women’s student-athletes have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) At-Large Academic All-District Team, the organization announced Tuesday (June 25). The award recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom.

On the women’s side, UVA’s Laura Janssen (field hockey), Mackenzie Hoeg (lacrosse), Morgan Schwab (lacrosse), Maggie Bostain (lacrosse), Amanda Sambach (golf) and Lauren Benedict (rowing) were all honored. Justin McCoy (wrestling), Kyle Montaperto (wrestling), Cole Kastner (lacrosse), Connor Shellenberger (lacrosse) and Chase Yager (lacrosse) were selected as UVA’s men’s recipients.

To be considered for CSC Academic All-District honors, an undergraduate student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale). A graduate student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as both an undergraduate and a grad student unless they are in their first semester as a graduate student and don’t have an established graduate GPA. Eligible nominees need to be in the lineup for 70 percent of the total matches played by the team that includes team scores.

The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Academic All-District honorees are considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. CSC Academic All-America finalists advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First, second, and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced July 16-17, 2024.

Previously entitled College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), CSC changed its name on Sept. 1, 2022, to more accurately reflect the image and focus of the organization, which increasingly encompasses creative communications professionals.
