Katie Lu Named Third Team Academic All-American

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State rising senior women’s golfer Katie Lu was named a Third Team Academic All-American by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) on Tuesday afternoon. She was one of two Spartans to earn Academic All-America honors, joining field hockey’s Ashley Harlock, who was a first team selection.

Lu is a finance major who carries a 3.931 grade-point average. She advanced to the All-America ballot after earning Academic All-District honors in June.

An All-Big Ten Conference First Team selection, Lu was the team’s top finisher seven times last season as the Spartans won one team event, posted three runner-up finishes and were among the top-five in eight different tournaments.

Lu led the way, posting not only personal best numbers, but some of the best in program history. Lu led the team in scoring last season at 71.54, a career best mark that also ranks No. 2 all-time for a single season at Michigan State, just behind the record of 70.68 set by Sarah Burnham in 2017-18.

She will enter her senior year in 2024-25 ranked No. 4 all-time at Michigan State with a 73.55 scoring average.

Lu won two events, shooting a 3-under par 213 to win the Mary Fossum Invitational on Sept. 18 and then carding a 5-under par 211 to share medalist honors with classmate Brooke Biermann at the Briar’s Creek event on March 12. Lu is one of 12 MSU players to win two events in one season and was the first player since Burnham won two in 2015-16.

Lu finished among the top-5 in four events, the top-10 seven times and the top-20 11 times in the 13 events she played in during the season.
