Gators On Tour: The Open Championship


GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Former Gators tee’d up across two PGA Tour events, the Korn Ferry Tour and the Americas Tour.

PGA Tour Golfers

Billy Horschel shined in gloomy Scotland this weekend recording his best finish ever at a major championship, tied for second. Horschel dominated on approach and around the green gaining the fourth and ninth most strokes on the field. The 15 year pro held the 54-hole lead before some early troubles Sunday. Horschel would fight until the end, birding the final three holes to finish 7 under, just two shots off the lead. 

 

Back in the “States” Ian Gilligan (T-40), Alejandro Tosti (T-53), Tyson Alexander (Cut) and Camilo Villegas (Cut) competed in the Barracuda Championship.

The Barracuda Championship marks the first pro tournament for Gilligan, a rising senior on the Gators Men’s Golf team. Gilligan transferred to Florida before last season and helping the Gators to a NCAA National Championship tournament berth. Gilligan’s 21 birdies ranked 12th among the field. 

 

Gilligan is also exempt for the Shriners Open in October after winnings the Southern Highlands Collegiate. 

Korn Ferry Tour Golfers

Three former Gators were in the field for the Price Cutter Charity Championship led by T.J. Vogel (T-29) along with Ricky Castillo (T-33) and Fred Biondi (Cut). 

Vogel shot 16 under in route to his second best finish this season, due in large part to 5 under 67’s on the bookends of the tournament. Vogel moves up 10 spots in the Korn Ferry points list following his top 30. 

PGA Tour Americas Golfers

Yuxin Lin completed in the Bromont Open where he shot 1 over and was cut from competition.

The PGA Tour is at TPC Twin Cities for the 3M Open with Tyson Alexander and Alejandro Tosti in the field.

The Korn Ferry Tour is in Illinios for the NV5 Invitational which features Ricky Castillo, Fred Biondi and T.J. Vogel. 

The PGA Tour Champions is in Scotland for its final major of the year, the Senior Open Championship. Scott Dunlap will be the lone Gator in the field. 

The Americas Tour and Yuxin Lin will be in Ottawa, Canada for the Commissionaires Ottawa…
