Barcos, Robison, Watts named Cobalt Golf All-American Scholars

NORMAN, Okla. – Javier Barcos, Brandon Robison and Braxton Watts were all named 2023-24 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars when the Golf Coaches Association of America released its annual list on Thursday.
 
This makes back-to-back years in which the Utes have had multiple student-athletes chosen for this honor, as well as consecutive selections for Barcos and Watts.
 
Barcos’ hard work in the academic arena led to a 3.32 GPA as he worked toward a degree in Business Administration and he also served as leader for the team on the links. He collected an All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention spot by crafting a team-best 71.8 stroke average, tops among Utes who played at least 20 rounds. Barcos posted five top 10 finishes, tied for fourth-most in a single season in school history and tied for 11th at the Pac-12 Championships, making him the only Ute to achieve consecutive top 15 finishes at that event. He also helped the Utes advance at NCAA Regionals by shooting 2-over, including a first-round 69, and tying for 25th.
 
Watts, who is studying Communication, logged a 3.22 GPA during a year that also saw him collect his first collegiate victory at The Goodwin, where he bested a field of 168 golfers by shooting a 5-under 205. He also tied for third on the squad by collecting three top 20 finishes and recording a 72.5 stroke average. In the postseason, Watts helped the Utes advance at NCAA Regionals by shooting 4-over and tying for 35th, then earned an individual spot in the final round of the NCAA Championships by tying for 25th through three rounds, then advancing in a playoff before finishing tied for 35th.
 
Robison can add this to a list of accomplishments that already includes a CSC Academic All-District spot and his work in the classroom led to a 3.68 GPA as he pursues a degree in finance. On the golf course, Robison logged two top three finishes, including a second-place performance at the Gaucho Invitational, where he shot 10-under. In the postseason, Robison helped his team advance at the NCAA Austin Regional by collecting a share of 50th and tying for the team’s lowest second-round score with a 1-under 70.
