NORMAN, Okla. – For the second consecutive year the Florida’s men’s golf team had three golfers named as Cobalt Golf All-American Scholars. Parker Bell, Matthew Kress and Tyler Wilkes earned the award the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced Thursday.
The awards also mark the fourth consecutive year with multiple honorees under head coach J.C Deacon and back-to-back seasons of setting the program record in total selections (3).
Bell was also named to the 2024 SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll and a member of the 2022-23 SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll. The rising junior qualified for the 2024 U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 where he competed in his first major and made the first birdie of the event. Bell played in 13 tournaments last season and shot an opening round of 5-under 65 at the Gators Invitational. He also finished T8 at the West Lafayette NCAA Regional and T23 at the SEC Championship.
Adding to his academic honors, Kress is three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll recipient and a member of the 2023 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team. He competed in all 14 tournaments for the Gators last season and won his first collegiate event, the Georgetown Intercollegiate. Kress tied for third-best on the team with a stroke average of 72.0 along with making 130 birdies and three eagles.
Wilkes graduated from UF this spring with a degree in education sciences and cum laude honors. He was a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member for the Gators and SEC All-Freshman Team honoree. Wilkes played in nine tournaments last season and had five top-5, three top-10 and six top-25 finishes. He tied his career-best finish of T3 and low-round of 66 at the Williams Cup last fall.
To be eligible for nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate’s Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50 percent of their team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA, and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
