Virginia Athletics | Duangmanee and Lee Named GCAA All-America Scholars

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – UVA men’s golfers George Duangmanee (Fairfax, Va.) and Bryan Lee (Fairfax, Va.) have been recognized by the Golf Coaches Association of America for academic excellence by being named Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars for their performance in the classroom. It marks the third year in a row Duangmanee has been honored while it is the first time Lee has been recognized.

Both Duangmanee and Lee helped UVA to a program-best third-place finish in stroke play at the 2024 NCAA Championships where the Cavaliers advanced to match play (top eight) for the second consecutive season.

Lee and Duangmanee received honorable mention All-America honors this season. Lee played in 12 tournaments and was second on the team with a 71.24 stroke average. He led UVA in scoring six times.
Duangmanee finished 15th at the NCAAs, shooting 1-over 289. He won UVA’s only point in its quarterfinal match play loss to eventual national champion Auburn.

Duangmanee and Lee were previously named to the 2024 ACC Honor Roll.

To be eligible for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate’s Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA, and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.

A total of 532 NCAA Division I athletes from 180 schools earned 2023-24 Cobalt Golf GCAA All-America Scholar honors.

Established in 1958, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) is the professional organization of men’s collegiate golf coaches. The GCAA’s mission is to support its member coaches from six divisions, including the NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA, by creating educational opportunities, providing resources, and promoting its members with the purpose of enhancing their overall performance as coaches, mentors, and teachers. The GCAA also recognizes the excellence and achievements of its members and their student-athletes in academic, athletic, and civic endeavors.
