PGA Tour players on 2024 FedEx Cup Playoffs bubble ahead of Wyndham

PGA Tour players on 2024 FedEx Cup Playoffs bubble ahead of Wyndham

Jhonattan Vegas and Max Greyserman took care of business in Minnesota.

Vegas captured his fourth Tour victory at the 3M Open and rookie Greyserman had his best finish as a professional as both jumped into the FedEx Cup top 70. That means they’re projected in the field for the playoffs, which begin in two weeks in Memphis. Up first, however, is one final event for players to earn their way into the postseason.

The race for the playoffs is on, as players jockey for spots in the top 70 in the FedEx Cup standings to secure a spot in the FedEx St. Jude Championship next month in Memphis. This is the second year only 70 players reach the first playoff event, unlike previous years when 125 made the playoffs.

The top 50 players after the FedEx St. Jude Championship on Aug. 15-18 will qualify for the BMW Championship at Castle Pines on Aug. 22-25 in Colorado, then the top 30 will head to Atlanta and East Lake for the Tour Championship on Aug. 29-Sept. 1.

This week the PGA Tour is on a break for the Olympics, but next week the Wyndham Championship is the final event of the regular season and last chance for players to make it into the playoffs.

Here’s a closer look at some interesting names in the FedEx Cup points standings, including some who have work to do to stay in the top 70 and others who need to make a push to reach Memphis.

Riley finished T-46 at the 3M Open but still fell outside of the top 70 because of Greyserman and Vegas rising. If the playoffs began today, he would be the first man out.

Three points in front of Riley is Victor Perez, who didn’t play at the 3M Open. He has had three top-12 finishes in his last six starts but also a pair of MCs, including the Open Championship.

It was a big week for Kitayama, who finished T-6 at the 3M and moved to 73rd in the standings. After a week off, he’ll need a similar performance in North Carolina to make the postseason.
