PARIS, France – Seven with Gator connections competed in Olympic basketball, diving, golf and track & field action Wednesday. Two – Joseph Fahnbulleh (200m) and Grant Holloway (110m hurdles) – advance to Thursday’s finals.
Basketball
Women’s Quarterfinal
Belgium 79, Spain 66
Andrea Vilaro and her Spain team’s Olympic run ended in the quarterfinals Wednesday. Belgium advanced with a 79-66 win and meets France in the semifinals. .
The game was tied at 26 after the first quarter. Belgium doubled up in the second quarter, outscoring Spain 22-11 to take 48-37 halftime lead. Belgium led by as much as 22 in the final quarter and Spain couldn’t get closer than 12 in closing action.
Vilaro played 16 minutes and scored three points.

Diving
Gator grad Maha Amer competed in 3m springboard preliminary action, where she posted a 250.20 score to place 24th out of 28 divers. Representing Egypt, Amer was 17th heading into her fourth dive, but fell to 24th after she scored a 31.50 on her Back 2½ Somersaults. She bounced back on her final Forward 2½ Somersaults 1 Twist to finish with a 49.55, but was not enough to make the top-18 advancing spots.
The former SEC Co-Diver of the Year secured her ticket to Paris back in December of 2023, after winning gold at the African Continental Championships. It marks her second Olympic Games, as she competed in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games and placed 28th out of 30.
Golf
Sarah Schober of Austria opened Olympic play with a round of 75. She is tied for 36th overall.
Play continues Thursday at Le Golf National and action can be seen on NBC’s Golf Channel.
Track and Field
Gator grad Grace Stark heads to Olympic semifinal action after finishing third in heat 5 of qualifying action (12.72). She started explosively, leading the pack by a stride for the first 30 meters, and hanging on to claim third and an automatic qualifying spot. Semifinal action is set to begin Friday.
