Boutier, Maguire Named to Europe Solheim Cup Squad

DURHAM, N.C. – For the ninth straight Solheim Cup, Duke women’s golf will be well-represented as a pair of Blue Devils – Celine Boutier and Leona Maguire — were named to the 2024 European Cup team on Sunday following the conclusion of the 2024 AIG Women’s Open.

Boutier and Maguire were two of eight automatic qualifiers announced on Sunday along with Charley Hull, Esther Henseleit, Maja Stark, Linn Grant, Carlota Ciganda and Madelene Sagstrom.

The 2024 Solheim Cup will be held Sept. 13-15 at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia.

Boutier, a 2016 Duke graduate, will be making her fourth consecutive appearance in the Solheim Cup and owns a 5-4-1 ledger over her career.  A 2018 Blue Devil graduate, Maguire has carded an impressive 7-2-1 record and she will be competing in her third straight Solheim Cup.

The Solheim Cup combines the tradition and prestige of the game of golf with passion for one’s country and continent. This biennial international match-play competition features the best U.S. players from the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour and the best European players from the Ladies European Tour (LET).

Held every two years, the event has grown into the most prestigious international women’s professional golf team event. The U.S. Team leads Team Europe, 10-7-1, all-time in Solheim Cup competition.

Other Duke golfers who have competed in the Solheim Cup include Boutier (2019, 2021, 2023), Maguire (2021, 2003) and Brittany Lang (2017, 2015, 2013, 2011, 2009).
