Former Bears Will Make Their Second Appearances In Prestigious Event
BERKELEY – California men’s golf alumni Collin Morikawa and Byeong Hun An will play in the 2024 Presidents Cup, as they earned automatic qualifications for the U.S. Team and International Team, respectively, following the conclusion of the BMW Championship on Sunday. The Presidents Cup will be played at The Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal, Canada, on Sept. 24-29.
Both Golden Bears will make their second career Presidents Cup appearances; Morikawa debuted for the U.S. Team in 2022 compiling a 2-1-0 record, while An debuted for the International Team in 2019, going 1-2-2. The event will extend Morikawa and An’s busy 2024 schedules, as the duo competed at the Paris Olympics earlier this month, tying for 24th.
An, the No. 6 qualifier for the International Team, has recorded five top-10 finishes in 2024, including a T2 at the Sony Open. Morikawa earned the U.S. Team’s No. 3 automatic qualifier after registering seven top-10 finishes this season, highlighted by a season-best runner-up at the Memorial Tournament, along with top-three and top-four efforts at the Masters Tournament and PGA Championship, respectively.
Morikawa and An enter this week’s TOUR Championship ranked seventh and 16th in the FedEx Cup standings.
Fellow Cal men’s golf alumnus and PGA Tour standout Max Homa has a chance to join Morikawa and An in the event when U.S. Team Captain Jim Furyk announces his captain’s picks on Sept. 3 to round out the 12-man team.
