Irons used by PGA Tour’s Top 10 golfers in Strokes Gained: Approach

Shane Lowry

Aside from the list of winners (and possibly the Money List), there is no stat that is as important to PGA Tour golfers as Strokes Gained: Approach the Green. It compares the performance of golfers on shots hit from the fairway and off the tee on par 3s, with a positive number meaning you are better than the tour average, while a negative number means you are giving away strokes. What makes it especially important is that players who rank highly in this statistic set up more scoring opportunities that other golfers, while also lowering their chances of making bogeys.

Below is a list of the players who lead the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained: Approach the Green heading into this week’s season-ending Tour Championship, along with the irons they typically have in their bag.
