CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami graduate Sara Byrne (’24) posted an undefeated record at the 2024 Curtis Cup to help Team Great Britain and Ireland (GB&I) defeat Team USA, 10 ½ – 9 ½ Sunday morning at the Sunningdale Golf Club in Sunningdale, Berkshire, England.
Playing alongside the top amateur in the world Lottie Woad (Florida State), Byrne finished the Curtis Cup with a 2-0-3 record to aid GB&I to its first Curtis Cup victory since 2016. The Douglas, Cork, Ireland native tallied a 3&2 result in Sunday singles action, including six birdies and an eagle to defeat Catherine Park and earn a point for GB&I.
Byrne is the seventh Hurricane (10 overall appearances) to compete in the Curtis Cup and first since Tracy Kerdyk did so in 1988. Six of the seven Hurricanes, Byrne included, were part of the winning Curtis Cup team, but Byrne is the first to secure a win for Team GB&I.
The three-day event, co-organized by the United States Golf Association and The R&A, is the most prestigious team trophy for women amateur golfers and contested biennially by teams representing Great Britain and Ireland and the United States.
Team USA now owns a 31-9-3 lead in the biennial competition.
