Sammamish, Wash. – They’re back! After the winningest season since 2018-19, complete with many school records shattered, the Arizona State Men’s Golf team heads to Washington on September 7-8 to play in the Sahalee Players Championship at Sahalee Country Club.
Head Coach Matt Thurmond and Assistant Coach Thomas Sutton return to the state of Washington where Thurmond spent 15 seasons with the Huskies prior to joining the Sun Devils in 2016, and assembled 12 NCAA Championship appearances with the Huskies. He also led them to three Pac-12 titles in his tenure. Sutton spent five seasons with Washington where the program recorded 11 team wins and ranked No. 10 in 2022 before joining the Sun Devils in 2022.
COURSE HISTORY
The Sun Devils will compete at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Wash. hosted by Washington. Sahalee Country Club offers 27-holes of world-class golf for all levels. Sahalee, well-known for its championship course pedigree, hosted the 2024 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. The Club adds this championship to its rich history of hosting major championship golf which includes the 1998 PGA Championship.

OUR LAST TIME HERE
During the 2023 season, Preston Summerhays shot 5-under 211(72-67-72) and then beat Max Herendeen of Illinois in a playoff to win the Sahalee Players Championship which earned him a spot at the Fortinet Championship. The Sun Devils finished second at 7-over 871(286-296-289), eight shots behind Illinois who finished at 1-under 863(286-281-296).
THE FIELD
In addition to No. 2 Arizona State, the field includes No. 15 University of Washington, No. 9 University of Florida, No. 10 University of North Carolina, Northwestern, No. 15 University of Arizona, No. 18 Texas A&M, Duke, University of Oregon, No. 19 Oklahoma State, Pepperdine, UNLV, and TCU.
