Men’s Golf Central: Visit Knoxville Collegiate


LOUDON, Tenn. – The 6th-ranked Tennessee men’s golf team is set to open its fall season at home this weekend, competing in the Visit Knoxville Collegiate.

The Vols are set to play three total rounds—teeing off with 18 holes on Friday, followed by 18 holes apiece on Saturday and Sunday.

The event, which is in its second year of existence, is set to be played at the par-70, 7,280-yard Tennessee National Golf Club. The Greg Norman-designed course sits along the Tennessee Ricer and offers a long and challenging layout.

According to Golfweek’s preseason rankings, Tennessee is the highest-rated team in the field.

Tennessee won last year’s inaugural Visit Knoxville Collegiate with a 25-under overall score with five players finishing inside the top 25.

The Vols are coming off a 2023-24 season in which they won a program-record-tying three tournament titles and posted the school’s first top-10 NCAA Championships finish since 1981.

THE VOLS’ LINEUP

Lance Simpson

Simpson, who heated up at the end of last season, is coming off a summer in which he posted a pair of consecutive top-five finishes at the Northeast Amateur and Southern Amateur and current is ranked 88th in the world. Following his strong summer showing, Simpson was named to Golf Channel’s Preseason All-America list as an honorable mention.

Bruce Murphy

Murphy is coming off a 2023-24 campaign in which he earned All-SEC Freshman team honors, registed an inidvidual win at the Wolfpack Invitational and posted four top-25 finishes.

Jackson Herrington

Herrington, who enters his first season on Rocky Top, was named a preseason third team All-America selection by Golfweek and Golf Channel. The Dickson, Tennessee, native is coming off a strong summer campaign in which he became the youngest Tennessee State Open winner, advanced to the Sweet 16 at the Western Amateur and made it to the Round of 32 at the U.S. Amateur.

Evan Woosley-Reed

Woosley-Reed was named an All-America Honorable Mention following the 2023-24 season. The Shelbyville, Tennessee, native was a consistent force for the Vols last year, logging seven top-10 finishes along with a 70.61 scoring average.

Josh Hill

Hill posted a pair of top-10 finishes and three top-25 finishes last season. The Dubai, United Emirates, native also registered three top-25 finishes this summer, including a seventh-place showing at the St. Andrews Links Trophy.
