UT shot a 3-under 277 in round one and sit tied with Charlotte.
Jackson Herrington provided UT with its best showing of the day, firing a 5-under 65 to open his collegiate debut. The Dickson, Tennessee, native enters round two tied for second after his bogey-free day.
Lance Simpson gave the Vols their second-best round on Friday, shooting a 4-under 66. The redshirt junior posted a 33 on each side and notched five birdies en route to his first-round score. Simpson sits tied for fifth ahead of Saturday’s round.
Laurent Desmarchais, who is playing as an individual, posted a 2-under 68 and sits tied for 13th going into round two.
Jean Phillipe-Parr, who is also competing individually, birdied the 18th hole to register a 1-under 69 and sits tied for 19th.
Pearce Lewin, Bruce Murphy and Josh Hil each shot 3-over 73s in round one and are tied for 59th.
Lewin is competing as an individual as Murphy and Hill are in the five-man lineup.
Evan Woosley-Reed opened the tournament with a 74 and is tied for 67th place.
Christian Pardue shot a 75 in round one and is tied for 76th individually.
Kai Komulainen, UT’s final individual, shot an 83 in round one.
