Simpson Ties for Third as #6 Vols Finish Third at Visit Knoxville Collegiate


LOUDON, Tenn. – Tennessee redshirt junior golfer Lance Simpson tied for third at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate as the sixth-ranked Tennessee men’s golf team tied for third. 

Simpson’s top-three showing is the best of his career. The redshirt junior fired three consecutive rounds of par or better, finishing 6-under overall. He opened the tournament with a 4-under 66 and followed it with rounds of 68 and 70 in his next 36 holes, respectively. 

As a team, the Vols shot 4-under overall and tied South Carolina. 

Jackson Herrington gave UT its second-best finish after tying for eighth in his collegiate debut. The Dickson, Tennessee, native fired a 65 in round one and closed the tournament with an even-par 70 to shoot 4-under overall. 

Competing individually, Pearce Lewin registered a top-25 finish in his Rocky Top debut. The freshman opened the tournament with a 73, but quickly bounced back with consecutive rounds of 69 to log a 1-over total. 

Bruce Murphy and Evan Woosley-Reed both tied for 33rd to open the season. The duo finished the event at 4-over in total. 

Josh Hill, Tennessee’s final member of the lineup, tied for 57th. Hill’s best round came on Saturday when he notched an even-par 70. 

Laurent Desmarchais, who competed individually, also tied for 57th. Desmarchais’ lowest round came on day one when he logged a 1-under 69. 

Freshman Christian Pardue, who competed as an individual, tied for 64th after closing the tournament with a 71. 

Sophomore Jean-Philippe Parr also competed outside the UT lineup and tied for 66th. The Saint-Célestin, Quebec, native’s lowest score of the tournament was a 1-under 69 in round one. 

Kai Komulainen, the Vols’ final individual, placed 84th.
