GRAND HAVEN, Mich. – The Arizona women’s golf team opened the 2024-25 season by winning the Folds of Honor Collegiate at American Dunes Golf Course by three strokes over No. 6 Florida State and 15 strokes over No. 3 Texas.
The Wildcats as a team posted the round of the day, a 6-under total of 282, while senior Carolina Melgrati took second place individually for the best individual finish of her career.Â
The victory makes first-year head coach Giovanna Maymon the first women’s golf head coach in Arizona history to win her debut tournament.Â

Carolina Melgreti shot 1-over par 73 in the final round to finish at 4-under par for the tournament, and was just two strokes behind Mirabel Ting from Florida State in first place.

In the final round, it was sophomore Charlotte Back who gave the Cats the biggest push into the first-place position. She shot a 68 and jumped 12 spots into a tie for sixth with a 54-hole score of 217.Â

Junior Nena Wongthanavimok went 2-under par on her final day to finish the tournament at 4-over par and in a tie for 11th place.Â
Maria Cabanillas, a junior from Argentina, bounced back in a big way on Wednesday, shooting 1-under par round of 71 to finish the tournament 16-over par and a tie for 45th. It is just the third career tournament appearance for Cabanillas.Â
Another senior, Lilas Pinthier, finished the tournament tied for 21st at 6-over par following a 74 in the final round. It marked her best indiviual finish in a 54-hole event since Oct. 2-3, 2023 at the Windy City Classic (T20th).Â
The Wildcats will return to the course for the Mason Rudolph Championship hosted by Vanderbilt at The Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn. from Sept. 20-22.Â
