Women's Golf Ties for 4th at Cardinal Cup


SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – Rutgers women’s golf wrapped up its second event of the season with a t-4th finish at the Cardinal Cup on Sunday, shooting an 885 (291-297-297) at the University of Louisiville Golf Club.

The Scarlet Knights were led by a pair of top-five finishes, with junior Grace Lu tying for second place and freshman Joline Truong tying for fifth. . 

“While this wasn’t the finish we were looking for, it was still a strong weekend for us,” head coach Kari Williams said. “It’s important to have these experiences at the top of a leaderboard and to learn how to handle the pressure. Grace had a great tournament and Joline was consistent again for us. We have two weeks before our next event to practice and get ready to compete again.”

Round 3 – Sunday, September 15th

Weather: Sunny, Temps in 70s, 10-20 mph winds

After three consecutive bogies to start the round, Lu rebounded and closed out her round with two birdies and 12 pars in her final 15 holes to post a 2-over 74 in the final round. She finished the tournament in a tie for second with a 1-under 215 (69-72-74), finishing two strokes back of the event winner. 

Truong now has back-to-back top-10 finishes to start her collegiate career, earning her first career top-five with a t-5th finish on Sunday. She had four more birdies in her final round, bringing her total to the event for nine, finishing at 2-over 218 (72-73-73).

Lucrezia Rossettin closed out the weekend strong with a 1-under 71 in the final round. She collected her second eagle of the tournament on the par-4 second on Sunday, adding a pair of birdies on the back nine to propel her to her best round. Rossettin finished just outside the top-20 at t-21st with an 8-over 224 (75-78-71).

Krystal Li finished the tournament in t-38th with a 14-over 230 (75-76-79) and Lorena Rossettin rounded out the competitors with a t-70th finish at 23-over 239 (83-76-80).

Round 2 – Saturday, September 14th

Weather: Sunny, Temps in high-70s, 10-20 mph winds

Lu put together another strong round to maintain her lead with one round remaining, shooting an even-par 72 to remain at 3-under (69-72) for the weekend. Her second round featured back-to-back birdies on No. 5 and 6 and 14 pars on the day. 

“Today the course played a little tougher but we hung in there this afternoon,” head coach Kari Williams said. “Grace and Joline put together good rounds for us again. We’ve put ourselves in a good position to go out tomorrow and compete for the title.”
