Cougars Complete First Day at Canadian Collegiate Invitational


FOOTS BAY, Canada – Washington State redshirt-sophomore Ben Borgida fired a four-under, 68, in the second round to highlight the Cougars’ first day of play Monday at the 2024 Canadian Collegiate Invitational, held at the par-72, 7,157-yard Oviinbyrd Golf Club.
 
As a team, the Cougars sit tied for ninth with the University of British Columbia in the 10-team event after finishing the first 36 holes at 13-over par. Missouri leads the event at 22-under followed by Michigan and Notre Dame, both at -11.
 
Borgida opened his day with a 2-over, 74, before catching fire in his second 18 holes with a 4-under, 68, a round the featured six birdies. Borgida improved 16 places following his second round and finished the day tied for 14th at 2-under, 142. Junior Sam Renner finished his first two rounds at even-par, 144, shooting 1-under in the first round and a 1-over, 73 in the afternoon. Renner is tied for 21st entering Tuesday’s final 18 holes.
 
Freshman Dylan Burcham improved by three stokes from his first to second round, shooting a 3-over 75 in the morning to an even-par 72 in round two. Burcham’s round included two birdies, two bogeys and 14 pars as he finished the first 36 holes tied for 30th.
 
After posting a 3-over 75 in his opening 18 holes, fifth-year senior Drayton Joseph posted an 8-over 81 in round two to end his first day at 12-over, 156, tied for 49th overall. Senior Franklin Lydra struggled through both rounds, shooting 82-85 to finished at 23-over, 167, and in 55th place.
 
Play concludes Tuesday at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational with a final 18 holes.
