Clemson, SC—Isabella Rawl fired a five-under-par 67 on Friday to lead Clemson to a 277 team score and a tie for third after the first round of the Women’s Mason Rudolph Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Course in Franklin, Tennessee.

The 16-team tournament includes 12 power four conference teams.  Seven of those teams shot between 276 and 278 in the opening round making for a most competitive opening round of the 54-hole tournament.    Mississippi State and South Carolina are tied for the lead at 12-under par 276, while Clemson is tied with Arizona for third at 277.  Texas, Baylor and Northwestern are all tied for fifth at 278.

Clemson’s 11-under par score is tied for the seventh beat team score vs. par in Clemson history.

Rawl (67), Sydney Roberts (69) and Katherine Schuster (69) all scored in the 60s, the first time Clemson has had three golfers score in the 60s in the same round since the 2023 Cougar Classic, the opening tournament of last season.

Rawl had six birdies and one bogey in recording the second best round of her career.  She had an opening round 66 at the NCAA National Tournament in California last year.   Rawl finished her round with birdies on the 17th and 18th holes.   Rawl is tied for third in the individual race, just two shots behind leader  Avery Weed of Mississippi State.

Roberts’s round of 69 included four birdies and just one bogey.  She was bogey free through her first 12 holes.  Schuster had five birdies and two bogeys in scoring her best round since a 67 in her first round of the 2023-24 season at the Cougar Classic.  Roberts and Schuster are tied for 12th after the first 18 holes.

Chloe Holder and Aitana Tuesta   both had even-par rounds of 72.  Holder had three birdies and three bogeys, while Tuesta had two birdies and two bogeys.  They are tied for 47th after 18 holes.

Melena Barrientos is playing the tournament as an individual and had an opening round 70 to rank 22nd after the first round.

Clemson will begin its second round at 10 a.m. Central time on Saturday morning and will play with the teams from Mississippi State and South Carolina.
