Rhodes in Contention at Mason Rudolph Championship

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Sun Devil Women’s Golf completed the second round of the Mason Rudolph Championship on Saturday.

Taking place at Vanderbilt Legends Club, the 23rd edition of the Mason Rudolph Championship features four teams from GOLF Channel’s preseason Top-10. Arizona State fired a 286 (-2) in the second round to maintain their eighth place positioning (-9/567) in the 16-team field. Texas has jumped out to the lead at -21, with the Sun Devils finding themselves only six strokes back of third place.

Redshirt sophomore Patience Rhodes once again set the tone for the Sun Devils, firing a career-best 67 (-5) to move into a tie for first. She is at 135 (-9) through two rounds and is in contention to win her first collegiate title. Rhodes has back-to-back rounds in the 60s as her brilliant start to the season continues. Junior Paula Schulz-Hanssen is the second-best performing Arizona State golfer, sitting at under par (-1/143) which is good enough to put her in a tie for 31st. Junior Beth Coulter and senior Grace Summerhays (+1/145) are in the top half of the field (T43rd). Freshman Isla McDonald-O’Brien improved her score by two strokes from the first to second round.

Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye‘s team is still in contention for a Top-5 finishI with Patience Rhodes a prime contender in the individual race. The Sun Devils combined for 37 birdies as a team, the fifth-most in the field. A big reason for their success continues to be the play on par five opportunities, with the team finishing 14-under on those holes. Arizona State will attempt to make the most of the last of three rounds starting tomorrow at 6:00 AM MST.
