Clemson Finishes 12th at Valero Collegiate – Clemson Tigers Official Athletics Site

CLEMSON, S.C. — Andrew Swanson had a two-under par 70 to lead Clemson in the third round of the Valero Texas Collegiate on Monday. Clemson finished 12th in the 15 team field that included 10 teams that competed in the NCAA National Tournament last year. The three-day, 54 hole tournament was played at the TPC San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas, the home of the PGA Tour’s Valero Texas Open.

Clemson shot an even par 288 as a team in the final round, eighth best in the field for the final round. The Tigers had their best day in the opening round when the team shot a six under par 282, the best team round of the young season.

Swanson’s 70 included six birdies, including four in a row at one point to tie for the longest streak by a Clemson player so far this year. Swanson finished the tournament with 14 birdies.

Swanson, Kian Rose, Rich Wills and Colin Salema all finished in a tie for 35th place in thee 90-player field with identical 54-hole scores of one over par 217. Rose had a 74 on Monday after shooting 70-73 in his first two rounds. He also finished the tournament with 14 birdies.

Wills shot a one-under-par 71 on Monday to rank as Clemson’s second best player. It was the best round of the year for the freshman from North Carolina. Salema had a 73 on Monday to finish at 217 for the 54 holes.

Thomas Higgins struggled to an 84 on Monday and finished the tournament with a 237 score.

East Carolina transfer Lucas Augustsson, who played the tournament as an individual, had a 73 in the final round and finished with a 226 score.

Clemson will return to action on October 7-8 at the Barbara Nicklaus Cup at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio.
