FORT COLLINS, Colo. (September 23, 2024) – Washington State Women’s Golf sophomore Alice Johansson continued her hot start to the season, firing a school-record second-round 65 to lead the Ptarmigan Ram Classic after two rounds.
Johansson, who won the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational hosted by Kentucky two weeks ago, opened the day with a first-round three-under 69 highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 hole 16. The Bollnäs, Sweden native caught fire in the afternoon round, recording seven birdies to post a 65 and break the school record of 66 set by Cougar legend Kim Welch and matched by Welch during the 2004-05 season. Anastasia Kostina (2005-06), Diana Hong (2006-07) and Mallory Kent (2012-13) also matched Welch’s previous top mark.
Johansson’s seven-under is also a school record for under par while her 65 tied for the third-lowest round in the tournament’s history. Johansson heads into Tuesday’s final round with a two-stroke lead.
The Cougars finished the day in 11th and improved their team score by 13 strokes in the afternoon round.
