SAMMAMISH, Wash. – The No. 24 University of Utah Men’s Golf team finished off a stellar 54-hole tournament at The Tindall on Tuesday, taking home the title to secure its second victory in as many tournaments to start the season. The unit was led by Davis Johnson who put together the strongest tournament of his career to earn a share for first place for his first collegiate title.
“It was an amazing tournament by Davis Johnson, I’m so happy for him,” said head coach Garrett Clegg. “He works extremely hard and has built himself into a great player. For him to play and compete that way this week was incredibly impressive!”
“For the second tournament in a row, we started the final round with the lead and had the round of the day. It was even more amazing as a team that we only made one bogey among the five players on the front nine. It was a brilliant first nine holes of golf and set the tone for the final round. Having each of our players shoot in the 60’s and Brandon coming in huge with a 64 showcased how strong each of these players are. It was a lot of fun as a coach to see these boys compete!”

Tuesday’s final round was a dominating 13-under 271, the lowest round of golf by any team during the tournament. All five Utes finished inside the top 30, while three Utes ranked inside the top 5. This was the first time in school history that Utah has won back-to-back tournaments in a season. Utah topped two additional ranked teams while also besting six teams that received votes in the most recent coaches’ poll.
Johnson came into the final round of golf at the Aldarra Golf Course leading the field after finishing day one 9-under. The redshirt junior got his final 18 holes started with three birdies on the front nine, all coming between the 4th and 7th holes. The back half of the course added some challenges for Johnson, carding a double bogey on the 10th hole before responding with two red marks. Johnson’s tournament came to an end after a bogey put him…
