WILMETTE, Ill. – Freshman Jasmine Koo posted back-to-back rounds in the 60s as she leads the Windy City Collegiate Classic by five strokes. USC as a squad sits in third, six strokes back of the lead, as they round out the first two rounds on Monday, Sept. 30 at the Westmoreland C.C.
The second round of the Windy City Collegiate Classic will resume in the second round tomorrow as a few groups could not finish, as they called the round due to darkness.
Koo is on track to earn her first career win in her second career start for the Women of Troy. The last Trojan to win a tournament in their first season was Amari Avery (spring 2022). Koo carded a 68-67 (-9), as she helped USC move up from the sixth spot after round one. Arizona State leads the tournament as a team as it is three-over par after the first two rounds.
Second and third on the team is sophomore Bailey Shoemaker and freshman Kylie Chong, as they are both six-over par and tied for 32nd. Shoemaker posted a 74 (+2) in round one and a 76 (+4) in round two. In round one, Shoemaker posted three bogeys but minimized that with one birdie. Chong has found some early success in her second-career tournament as she improved from a 76 (+4) in round one to a 74 (+2) in the second round.
Senior Xin (Cindy) Kou and junior Catherine Park wrap up the lineup as Kou was 11-over par and Park was 13-over par. Kou carded a 76 (+4) and a 79 (+7), and Park carded an 83 (+11) and rallied in the second for a 74 (+2).
The Women of Troy hope to overtake the lead as they head into the final day of the Windy City Collegiate Classic starting at 5:30 a.m. PT/7:30 a.m. CT tomorrow, at the Westmoreland C.C. in Wilmette, Ill.
