Tigers Open Play at the Blessings Collegiate


The University of Missouri men’s and women’s golf teams opened play for the Blessings Collegiate Invitational Monday.

Senior Ffion Tynan led the women’s team on the day, carding a three-under 69, including six birdies and an eagle on the fifth to finish the day in fourth place individually. Freshman Alexandra Berglund also got off to a strong start, posting a one-under 71, highlighted by a four-birdie and no bogey front-nine, to end the day in seventh. She also added the team’s second eagle on the day when she carded one on the 15th hole.

Overall, the women’s team finished the day in sixth at +12 with Arkansas leading through 18.

Sophomore Veikka Viskari posted a three-over 75, including four birdies to lead the men through the first 18. Virglio Paz and Trevor Mierl finished just one stroke behind as they both carded a four-over 76.

The men’s team finished 10th at +16 but is just five strokes out of third. LSU leads after the first round at -3.

After day one the teams finished with a combined score of +28, placing eighth of 10 teams with Mississippi State leading at a combined -3.

The men’s team will continue play Tuesday off of the first tee at 10:30 a.m. with the women teeing off of the 10th at 11:15 a.m.
