Cougars Open Play at The Molly, Skovgaard Bils Sits in 12th


MONTEREY, Calif. (September 30, 2024) – Washington State Women’s Golf senior Sarah Skovgaard Bils finished the opening day at The Molly Collegiate Invitational in a tie for No. 12 after finishing two-over through the first two rounds Monday.
 
Skovgaard Bils opened the day with a two-over 74 in the first round before recording five birdies in the afternoon’s second round for a 72, good for a four-way tie for 12th place. Sophomore Sara Pineros carded an opening-round 79 while freshman Agnes Brink posted a second-round 78.
 
Through 36 holes, WSU sits in 11th place after shaving five strokes its opening round total.

Play wraps up Tuesday with 18 holes.

The Course and Tournament Format

The 2024 Molly Collegiate Invitational is held at Bayonet Black Golf Course in Seaside, Calif. and plays as a par-72 at 6,147 yards.

The Field

In addition to Washington State and host Oregon State, California, Nevada, Rutgers, Sacramento State, San Francisco, San Jose State, Stanford, UC Davis and Washington will make up the 11-team field.

Tournament History

Washington State played in The Molly last season where then-freshman Alice Johansson set the program record for lowest score to par for a 54-hole event and equaled the school record with a 6-under-par, 66, on the final day. As a team, the Cougars shot their best round of the tournament Tuesday, firing a 2-under, 286 to finish the two-day event at +12, 876, in eighth place. Oregon and California tied for the team championship at -28, 836, five strokes ahead of first-day leader San Jose State.

2024-25 Cougars

The 2024-25 Washington State women’s golf team features seven members including senior 2024 NCAA participant Madelyn Gamble and senior Sarah Skovgaard Bils, junior Hannah Harrison, sophomores Alic Johansson and Sara Pineros along with freshmen Agnes Brink and Grace Rubelsky.
