Lu, Huskies Finish Third At Molly intercollegiate

SEASIDE, Calif. – For the second time in two tournaments this fall, Washington’s Vivian Lu turned in a top-five finished to lead the UW women’s golf team, posting a 5-under total to finish in a tie for third place at the Molly Intercollegiate Invitational. The Huskies also finished third as a team.

Lu finished the tournament with a 2-under 70 in the third and final round, following scores of 69 and 72 in the first two rounds Monday. Earlier this fall, she finished fourth at the Leadership and Golf Invitational at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash. She has been even or under-par in all six rounds this season.

As a team, Washington finished third, with a three-round total of 16-over 880.

“I’m super proud of her effort,” UW coach Mary Lou Mulflur said of Lu. “She almost didn’t play this week as she wasn’t feeling well, so I’m extremely pleased with her grit and toughness.

“As a team we had two solid rounds out of three, which is encouraging,” Mulflur continued. “We just need to sharpen up some things and gain some confidence before we head to Stanford.”

Sophomore Mads Smith, who made birdies on each of the final three holes, finished the tournament in a tie for 11th place, 1-over for the tournament.

Kennedy Knox also posted a top-20 finish thanks to a 2-under 70 in the third round Tuesday. Her 54-hole, 4-over total of 220 was good for a tie for 17th place.

Next up for the Huskies is the Stanford Intercollegiate, a three-day tournament Oct. 18-20 at Stanford Golf Course. The fall season wraps up with the Nanea Invitational, Oct. 28-30, on the Big Island of Hawai’i.
