Halama Leads Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah after 36 Holes

MEDINAH, Ill. – The Illinois Women’s Golf team wrapped up the first day of the Illini Women’s Invitational at Medinah in 11th place, with a combined total of 579 (+3) from the first and second rounds.

Lexanne Halama, competing as an individual, is holding the tournament lead after carding twelve birdies and having a bogey-free back nine in both rounds one and two. Halama is at 10-under after shooting a career-low 67 (-5) in both rounds. The senior is in the event lead for birdies, tied for first in par 3 scoring average (2.88, -1) and tied for third for par 4 scoring average (3.80, -4).

Yurang Li is tied in 15th after also carding a career-low 68 (-4) in the first round with six birdies. Li finished the second round with a 73 (+1).

Victoria Zheng has climbed up 35 spots on the leaderboard by carding five birdies on the front nine during the second round. Zheng now sits tied for 21st after finishing with an impressive second-round score of 67 (-5), a career low.

Brielle Mapanao is currently tied for 52nd after shooting an even-par 72 in the first round followed by a 75 (+3) in the second.

Anna Ritter is tied for 64th, posting rounds of 76 (+4) and 73 (+1).

Erica Lee is 82nd after carding rounds of 77 (+5) and 78 (+6).

Sophia Sulkar and Kylie Eaton, who are also competing individually, are currently tied for 64th and 87th, respectively. Sulkar moved up 17 places on the leaderboard by shooting 1-under-par (71) to end the day, bouncing back from an opening round of a 78 (+6). Eaton tallied rounds 85 (+13) and 77 (+5).

Houston holds the team lead at 20-under (556), with Ole Miss in second, trailing by just one stroke at 19-under (557).

The Fighting Illini will be back in action tomorrow morning at Medinah, with tomorrow’s third and final round featuring a 9:00 a.m. CT shotgun start.
