Jack Buchanan’s Historic Performance Earns Big Ten Weekly Honor

Men’s Golf | October 11, 2024

CHICAGO – USC men’s golf freshman Jack Buchanan (Cape Town, South Africa/Rondebosch Boys) was named Big Ten Men’s Golfer of the Week for the week of Oct. 4-10; the conference announced on Friday, Oct. 11.

Buchanan earns the B1G Ten award after finishing in a tie for individual runner-up at the Trinity Forest Invitational, Oct. 6-8. In his first career start, Buchanan carded rounds of 64-69-71 (204, -12). Buchanan’s 12-under-par performance is the lowest by a USC freshman since Trojan Jamie Lovemark posted a 201 (-15) at the NCAA West Regional in 2007. Buchanan’s runner-up finish is the top finish by a USC freshman since Yuxin Lin won the Southern Highlands Invitational in 2020.

Buchanan opened his first round for USC with a bogey-free, eight under-par 64, the best individual round by a freshman since now-junior Jackson Rivera carded a 63 during the 2021-22 season.

This is the first B1G weekly award in program history and the first weekly award for the Trojans since Jackson Rivera won Pac-12 player of the week honors on Mar. 21, 2023.

USC placed fourth at the Trinity Forest Invitational, as Buchanan led the charge with the low round all three days. The Trojans now have posted two top-four finishes in three starts this fall, as they continue to show marked improvement and team depth this season.

The Trojans wrap up the fall season at the Golf Club of Georgia Intercollegiate starting Friday, Oct. 18, through Sunday, Oct. 20, at the Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, Ga.
