East Lansing, Mich. – Three golfers are among the top-20 overall and Michigan State’s women’s golf team is tied for second place among 17 teams after the first round of play at the Tar Heel Invitational, being played at Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament is being played on the par-70, 6,081-yard course at Finley Golf Club. The tournament continues on Saturday, Oct. 12 with 18 holes and concludes on Sunday morning.
The Spartans shot a 6-over par 286 and are tied for second place with Wake Forest, just two shots off the pace of first-place Kentucky, who shot a 4-over par 284. Louisville is in fourth place at 7-over par 287 and Tennessee rounds out the top-five teams (10-over par 290).
Senior Brooke Biermann, junior Taylor Kehoe and sophomore Ana Sofia Murcia lead the Spartans, with each of them tied for 12th place at 1-over par 71. Bierman is tied for second in the field with four birdies after the first round, while Kehoe is tied for third with 13 pars.
Senior Katie Lu is tied for 25th place at 3-over par 73 and freshman Catalina Monroy is tied for 34th place at 4-over par 74.
Michigan State tees off at 10:10 a.m. on Saturday, playing alongside Kentucky and Wake Forest.
