ANNAPOLIS, MD — The Maryland women’s golf team topped Navy, 4.5-3-5, in match play Saturday at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Club in Annapolis.
Playing a modified match-play event with eight singles matches, the Terps took an early lead in the first group saw Tammy Wu beat Navy’s Una Johnson, 5 & 4, and Karla Elena Vázquez Setzer knocked off Hallie Brisco, 2-up.
Junior Daniela Burgos Ortega tied the Mids’ Megan Kirkpatrick, then senior Panassaya Somchit was edged by Keira Howard, 2 & 1. Sophmore Julia Garcia put the Terps on the verge of victory when she earned a 3&2 win over Vivian Cressman. Freshman Chananyu Chowiwattana fell to Sue Lee, 3&2 as the Mids made a rally.
Senior Nicha Kanpai was edged by Emma Tang, 3 & 1, but freshman Anna Pillard held off Bridget Hoang to seal the win for the Terrapins.
Next, Maryland will close out the fall season at the Landfall Tradition event Oct. 25-27 in Wilmington, N.C.
