International Golf Travel Market announces partnership with GEO Sustainable Golf Foundation

International Golf Travel Market (IGTM) announced a partnership with the GEO Sustainable Golf Foundation, an international non-profit dedicated to advancing sustainability through golf.

The partnership plans to offer leadership and support to the global tourism sector to drive a positive environmental impact.

IGTM is an annual event that brings together more than 450 golf tourism suppliers and 380 pre-qualified buyers and international press, as well as golf tourism professionals from more than 46 countries.

The GEO Sustainable Golf Foundation was founded 18 years ago and focuses on providing strategy, innovation, solutions and credible recognition for courses around the world.

The key goals of this new partnership include promoting sustainable tourism by raising awareness about the importance of sustainability in golf tourism and encouraging industry stakeholders to adopt responsible practices; supporting sustainable golf development by emphasizing the importance of environmental stewardship, social responsibility and resource efficiency; new educational initiatives such as educational sessions, workshops and resources highlighting the latest trends and best practices; and certification and recognition for resorts and venues that have earned the GEO Certified label for leadership in sustainable golf.

The IGTM event itself is currently working to better quantify and reduce its environmental and climate impact, including a comprehensive carbon emissions baseline for the October 2024 event.

Alan Grant, director of partnerships and engagement at GEO Sustainable Golf Foundation, said joining forces with IGTM is a powerful opportunity to amplify its mission.

“This collaboration will help us engage more deeply with the golf travel industry,” he said. “It will drive the adoption of sustainable practices that protect the environment, enhance communities, and ensure the long-term success of golf tourism and the places it touches worldwide.”
