Pollo Captures Individual Title at St. Andrews Links Collegiate


ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – In cold and windy conditions, Arizona senior Zach Pollo captured his second collegiate tournament title by firing a 2-under par round of 68 on Tuesday to win the St. Andrews Links Collegiate by two strokes.  

 

As a team, Arizona was 3-over par for round two in the six-count-five format to finish the event at Even par. Northwestern was second at 6-over par followed by St. Andrews University at 28-over and Howard at 56-over.  

 

The 36-hole stroke play event was held at the Jubilee Course at St. Andrews Golf Links in Scotland. The final round of the event on Wednesday will be medal match play against Northwestern at the historic Old Course at St. Andrews. Coverage on the Golf Channel begins at 6:00 a.m. MST. 

 

In round two, Pollo went out in 2-under 33 on the front nine with two birdies and seven pars. Then on the back nine, he was able to battle the conditions to even par and played the final hole with a three-stroke lead.  

 

Pollo’s other collegiate tournament win came at the N.I.T. his freshman year.  

 

Joining Pollo near the top of the leaderboard was Filip Jakubcik, who finished tied for second at 3-under par after an even par round of 70 in round two. Jakubcik was steady throughout his round, posting one birdie, one bogey and 16 pars. It marks his second Top 6 finish this season and the seventh career Top 10. 

 

Tiger Christensen closed with a 72 in round two, just his second round over par this season, to tie for fifth place individually. Christensen, who is ranked inside the Top 20 of the PGATourU rankings this week, has finished inside the Top 10 in all four tournaments this season. 

 

Johnny Walker posted a 73 in his second round and finished in a tie for 10th place at 4-over par while Matej Baca carded an even par 70 and tied for 11th place at 5-over par. Rounding out the Arizona lineup was Griffin Rhoads, who tied for 14th at 6-over par for the tournament after a 73 in round two.
