Men's Golf Finishes Runner-Up In Medal Match Play At St. Andrews

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – Arizona Men’s Golf finished in second place after falling to Northwestern, 4.5 to 1.5, in the medal match play championship match on Wednesday at the Old Course at St Andrews. While the final score may indicate the match was one-sided, all but one of the six matches finished with in two strokes of each other.

Griffin Rhoads (71) was the lone Wildcat that earned a full point after defeating Northwestern’s Ethan Tseng (73).

Johnny Walker earned the other half point for Arizona, posting a 70 to match NU’s Archie Finnie.

Zach Pollo, who won the stroke play portion of the event, posted a 71 in his match against Niall Shiels-Donegan, but Shiels-Donegan was two strokes better with a 69.

Tiger Christensen had a birdie chance on the 18th green to tie his match, but it just slid by on the right side of the hole and he finished with a score of 70 to give Northwestern and Daniel Svard the full point following his score of 69.

Filip Jakubcik and NU’s Cameron Adam went to the final hole tied at 3-under par, but it was a birdie from Adam that proved to be the difference at the end.

Arizona freshman Matej Baca dropped his match to Akshay Anand by four shots, 76 to 72.

The Wildcats return to action in January at the Southwestern Invitational in Thousand Oaks, Calif., from Jan. 27-29.
