5-Birdie Day Lands Liu In Top 10

STANFORD – Junior Adora Liu sunk five birdies and shot 2-under-par 69 to lead the California women’s golf team in the opening round of the Stanford Intercollegiate hosted by Dr. Condoleezza Rice on Friday.

After an early start to the day as one of 10 teams teeing off at 7:30 a.m. PT, the No. 22 Golden Bears carded a 13-over 297 team score, putting them in 14th place through 18 holes.

Fresh off a career-best 5-under final round at the Molly Invitational earlier this month, Liu began her Friday with birdies on holes 10 and 15. She later opened the back nine with three birdies in five tries and shot par the rest of the way, recording a second straight sub-70 round for the first time in her career.

Liu’s five birdies – all of which will contribute towards this year’s Play For Her fundraiser – were tied for the second most out of 100 golfers. She heads into round two in seventh place individually.

Senior Kaylyn Noh (+4), freshman Marie-Agnes Fischer (+5) and sophomore Constance Fouillet (+6) all contributed to the Bears’ score, totaling four birdies between them. Senior Jieming Yang (+8) also birdied once to give Cal a total of 10 for the day.

The Bears will start off in the late window on Saturday, teeing off at 11:45 a.m.
